Dear Henry

Thanks for your critique of Lockett / Bruford et al at the Royal Festival
Hall the other day. I feel compelled to point out that, while I might just
be a "stereotypical, thirty something King Crimson fan" ( when I'm not being
a stereotypical thirty something National Health, Hatfields, Stravinsky,
John Adams, Holdsworth, Tony Williams, Buddy Rich, Weather Report, Miles
Davis, Stevie Wonder, Earthworks, Led Zep, Be Bop Deluxe, Yellowjackets,
Stanley Clarke, Frank Zappa, Gentle Giant etc. fan ) , the T-shirt was most
definitely not faded. I regard faded T-shirts as passe. Keep up the good
works.

Bon Appetits,
Paul Bringloe.

Dear Aymeric,

After checking out the list of Canterbury related live shows in WR # 63, I thought I'd let you know that, according to Double You Concerts, the booking agent for the Dutch Caravan tour dates, the Groningen gig on September 28 has been confirmed for the small hall of the Oosterpoort. Additionally they have booked Richard Sinclair as supporting act to the Utrecht concert on the 27th.

Yours,
Swie Tio

[The news of Richard Sinclair supporting Caravan in Utrecht is really nice. Let's hope both parties will nail all rumours of ill feeling between them on the head for good by playing an encore or two together - "Golf Girl" for instance ! - AL]

Please answer. Thank you.

Greetings,

I plan to catch the first show of Gong's UK tour on October 1st in Liverpool. Can anybody pass along any info about the venue - Lomax?
Originally, the Manchester gig was listed for the 1st. I trust that this new
tour schedule is correct.

Cheers,
Chris

Subject: Robert Wyatt - Shleep

Hi Aymeric,

Got a hold of an advanced cassette of the new Wyatt album, and I have to admit, the album goes beyond my expectations, creatively speaking.

It contains 11 songs, all new, except for one "Free Will And Testament" that previously appeared on the Hugh Hopper & Kramer album, 'A Remark Hugh Made', with a slight change of lyrics.

I don't have any info on who's playing with Wyatt, but it's full of violins, trumpets, saxophones, acoustic and electric guitars, keyboards and Wyatt percussions.

Tracklisting as follows:
1. Heaps Of Sheeps
2. The Dutchess
3. Maryan
4. Was A Friend.
5. Free Will And Testament
6. September The 9th
7. Alien
8. Out Of Season.
9. Sunday In Madrid
10. Blues In Bob Minor
11. The Whole Point Of No Return

Here's a short review already published at the Q-magazine web site:

Robert Wyatt
Shleep
Hannibal HNCD 1418

Not only does Wyatt's Top Of The Pops appearance of 1974 - bearded, lugubrious, wheelchair-bound, singing Neil Diamond's I'm A Believer in a frail, reedy alto - remain a highlight of the programme's history, but as time goes by his claim to be a major figure in the annals of British pop experimentalism gets stronger and stronger. Few others could rope in both Brian Eno and Paul Weller for their new album, Wyatt's first since 1992's A Short Break. Splendid it is, too. No idea what you'd call it: ensemble punk jazz perhaps, but it's delightfully unformulaic and maybe his best work since the famed Rock Bottom. The Weller track, Free Will And Testament, is excellent as is Eno's sprightly Heaps Of Sheep and Maryan brims with byzantine melodies. In its own way, a kind of Britpop.

Stuart Maconie

To celebrate the coming album, I've extended my Wyatt page on my web-site, and added lots of sleeve scans, and enormous amount of lyrics I've gathered throughout the years.

The address is the same: http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Studios/6940/Wyatt.htm
Hope you could pay a visit...

Regards,

StrongComet
