GONG 2000 EUROPEAN TOUR Daevid Allen, Pierre Moerlen, Mike Howlett and Gilli Smyth with new members digital and acoustic guitar wiz Mark Hewins and ace saxophonist Theo Travis. Why not come along, bring the family, bring your next door neighbour. It won’t be the same without you.

To whom it may concern,

I am trying to locate the recordings of the Austrian band The More Extended Versions. They dedicated much of their musical energies to Robert Wyatt's material. They were sampled on Robert's latest project Shleep. Dose anyone have any leads as  to how I can attain their works "Round about Wyatt" and  "Dedicated to you but you weren't lessening"? Thanks for the  help.

Subject: Daevid Allen & Kramer gig in Baltimore, April 10, 1999
Date: Fri, 16 Apr 1999 06:30:46 -0700 (PDT)

Hello Aymeric,

Reporting in on the Daevid Allen & Kramer gig that took place at Orion Studios in Baltimore, MD, Saturday, April 10th, 1999.

I left upstate New York very early on Saturday the 10th, arriving in NYC around 11:30 am; after getting lost in Chinatown for a bit I finally found the rendezvous spot and met up with Daevid around noon or so...Kramer arrived, we loaded up my truck and proceeded towards Baltimore, a 3 1/2 hour journey.

An electronic-oriented guitar duo called Fingerpaint opened the show; rather ambient in approach, they reminded me of early Virgin-era Tangerine Dream, the lighter side of Heldon, and Jeff Greinke's sonic excursions.

Daevid & Kramer proceeded with more sonic bombardment, as Kramer employed distorto-fuzzed loops while Daevid played glissando on top... Much of the show had an improvised, spontaneous quality to it. There were songs also; "Who's Afraid" "Quit yr Bullshit" "Trial by Headline" for a 2nd encore, plus several others that I had never heard before. Amongst the highlights were Kramer's solo rendition of an old 13th Floor Elevators tune for the 1st encore, a rather wild and crazy piece about "The Feedback Dog", and Daevid's organization of the audience in chanting a thoroughly mixed rendition of the words "banana" and "mango" which then led into Daevid's flippant piece from the "Banana Moon" album, "I Am a Bowl."

After the gig, we hung out for a bit as Daevid & Kramer signed autographs & chatted a bit with the crowd; then we packed up & headed back to NYC, arriving back there around 4:30 AM Sunday morning. I left NYC Sunday afternoon, rather exhausted, but happier from the adventure! Thanks must also go to Gary Fick for organizing the Baltimore gig, Orion Studios for hosting the gig, and the friendly folk from the Baltimore area who were there...it was a unique gig.

Looking forward to the Gong shows in Wheaton, MD and NYC next month...it'll be my 1st times seeing Gong with both Pierre and Mark Hewins.

'Bye for now, keep on rattlin',
Mike Rae.

Subject: A SHORT NOTE
Date: 30 Apr 99 14:03:43 -0800

Greetings Aymeric/Canterburyists,

With all the things I'd want to say about CB, this entry is reserved for only one thing(riiiiight dave): Robert Wyatt release entitled 'Mid-Eighties'. This is brilliant!!! The CD, as many readers know, compiles an exceptional ReR Quarterly song, all of "Old Rottenhat" which I believe is one of RW's best solo works post 70's, a song from some Animal Rights related release, B side of Shipbuilding and the EP 'Work In Progress'. Total time is 78+ minutes.

This CD is: 1) a great bargain 2) jam packed with excellent recordings with most instrumentation done by RW 3) politically compelling in places(US of Amnesia) and 4) an overall, quasi melancholy/romantic/emotional/easy flowing piece de resistance. This CD has a very comfortable feeling about it and I don't know RW's full chronological life story but the songs on this CD seemed to have been done during a positive/optimistic period of his life(probably quite the opposite).

The fact that Wyatt's whole catalogue is very accessible and inexpensive with alot of key titles reissued on Thirsty Ear Recordings in the U.S. is also appealing keeping the average cost of these CD's at about 11-12$ per title. My copy of Mid Eighties is on Gramavision I believe.

Off topic a bit but related is a question for someone who owns a copy of the new pressing of Wyatt's 'End of an Ear'...does the booklet have the exact same artwork and new liner notes that the original CD release on CBS England had? Haven't seen a used copy so I can't say.

With this I bid you fine people goodbye til next time,

dv
