Dear readers of "What`s rattlin`"

Since March there are two new issues available of my German magazine "CANTERBURY NACHRICHTEN".

No 34 features concert-reviews of CARAVAN, IN CAHOOTS and Hugh HOPPER BAND, the CARAVAN Chronicles (1974) by Barry H. KING (in English) and several reviews of CDs by Kevin AYERS, John CALE, Lol COXHILL, Todd DILLINGHAM, GLO, GLOBAL, GODDESS TRANCE, GONG, GONGZILLA, Charles HAYWARD, HUGHSCORE, SOFTMACHINE, Robert WYATT etc. and many more related CDs.

No 35 features an interview with Fred Thelonius BAKER (in english), from 7th January 1999 in Rotterdam. He speaks about his musical carreer so far and future plans and collaborations, as well as about his first Solo-CD "Missing link" on Voiceprint. There is also a concert review of the Steve MILLER benefit concert from last June (in the Vortex Club) and of course again lots of new CDs by Pip PYLE, Elton DEAN, DEAN / HOPPER / CLARKE / KNIGHT, MARSHALL / TRAVIS / WOOD, NEW INDUS, Peter BLEGVAD, Anthony MOORE, L. VOAG, SLAPP HAPPY and many more.

You can also find the interview with Fred T. BAKER on the Musart-pages or on CALYX. Foreign readers: attention! most of the magazine is written in German language.

I don't like to turn WR into ad space for our business, but Wayside Music DOES have copies - in fact we currently have a special where they are $9.00 +  shipping.

Email direct to us for more info if wanted.
AND note that as far as I know, this title remains in print on ESD....

The Artist Shop recently held an IRC Chat with Robert Wyatt. During the chat the subject of these concerts came up. Apparently Annie has put together a group to perform the music of Robert Wyatt. Robert said he was very flattered by the whole thing and it had his blessings. The log of that chat is now posted at The Artist Shop and you'll find it linked from <http://www.artist-shop.com/irc>.  Overall the event went very well. Robert himself enjoyed it quite a bit. After the event, we went over to Talk City's #Music-Progressive room and Robert continued chatting with the fans in a less formal situation than the event itself.

This is definitely NOT out of print.  You'll find it listed on our ESD page at <http://www.artist-shop.com/esd>.

Yes it has.  We have it in our import section <http://www.artist-shop.com/catalog/imports>. Also there's the new Robert Wyatt/EP's by Robert Wyatt box set which is on out new Thirsty Ear page at
<http://www.artist-shop.com/thirsty>. Definitely worth checking out.

Enjoying reading the letters, hello everyone.

Would anyone be able to supply me (off list) the lyrics for Caimanera as
performed by Robert Wyatt? Don't ask me why - but thanks in anticipation!

What you got on the Knitting Factory not paying musicians properly?

They have got a v bad reputation yet we see, time and again Canterbury list related acts playing there?

What's (not) going on?

Subject: Any Fanterburies in Indonesia?
Date: Fri, 9 Apr 1999 00:53:47 +0700

Greetings and thanks for the nostalgia which is what it used to be. My memories go back to 1969 when I moved into a  flat in Swiss Cottage rented by Phil Arnold, an ex-Simon Langton school mate of  various Softs. Robert Wyatt was a frequentish visitor,as were members of Caravan.

Musical connections are few. I can only play CDs and cassettes, but I do recall a jam session which included Robin & Barry  Dransfield. This led, I believe, to an instrumental track on their album Rout of the Blues, which was the Melody Maker Folk album of the year  (1969?). Of course, there were the gigs - so many Caravan, Soft Machine at the  R.F.H. with Ivor Cutler & April (June?) Somebody supplying a quirkish interval, and Kevin Ayres at the Roundhouse...

It was 30 (!) years ago and the memories were vague, even at that time. Each gig though was family. The same faces and conviviality. Does anyone recall the Hatfield and the North gig in the Logan Hall, Leicester Square c.72? The sharing of our stashes; the cookies passed out by the band in the interval: and the music. And the first time I ever bought a T-shirt advertising a band.

I would like to ramble on, but preferably with  someone I can share a beer with. Are there any other Fanterburies here in  Indonesia? If so, let's try to recreate the appropriate atmosphere for listening to music that still satisfies and, in so doing, forget the paranoia of living in what could be the next  Yugoslavia.

This is an eagerly waited newsletter; many thanks.
