The Musart.co.uk Canterbury Musicians Server website was in existence for a total of 5 years. Lately Matt and I have not had the resources or time to continually update the central site as we would have wanted. This resulted in the vast and crumbling Cathedral edifice seen in the last few months. It was our great pleasure to receive many awards and plaudits from web professionals from the very beginning. Maybe it will even be remembered with a deal of affection by true Music fans and aficionados.
Hopefully it was helpful to some and a pain the neck for others; even funny at times. Certainly I believed in; and always wanted, a memorable site that will one day be made available in total on a ‘mixed media’ Music CD.
It would be a mammoth task to bring the design and structure into the 21st Century and so I took all three Musart domains down on purpose, at least for the time being. We will re-position and return at some point in the not so distant future.
The content, which was always meant to be as varied as Canterbury Music itself, ranged from relevant links to Music Manuscripts through MIDI files, Video, stories, personal photographs, Aymeric Leroy’s ‘What’s Rattlin’ archive and TinK’s MUSART Canterbury search engine. Not least was up to date news and comment from some of the Musicians themselves. Myself included, of course.
Several very serious and kindly generous offers of help have come in from all over the world; we had many millions of page access’ over the years and I would personally like to thank all those private individuals, webmasters and web-teams who would freely give their own very valuable time and awesome coding skills to the Canterbury Scene Musicians.
Many sites are continuing with their own Canterbury type agendas and I hope that the newsgroups (continually growing) will be a source of alternative information for interested browsers, present and future fans. Few of these sites have direct connections with the large group of Canterbury Musicians themselves. But it shows the burgeoning interest in this group of Musical individuals and collaborators; also the implicit ‘forward motion’ of Canterbury Music.
